| Ms Juhi Kilachand ( founder & CEO – Moksha ) has been elected as a Working Board Member of
Indian American Council (IAC)** and has taken up the initiative of ‘Women Empowerment’ in
rural villages. As a first step, Juhi has engaged with the the Byrraju Foundation (www.byrrajufoundation.org) in leveraging their outreach network to teach young women basic
skills in sewing / embroidering. The women will be trained by skilled artisans under the direct
guidance of Juhi. Also, these young women will be in direct touch with Juhi via tele - conferencing
from New York to give them ideas and direction of starting a ‘home business’ – with ‘micro credit’
assistance from the Byrraju foundation. This would work towards making them self-sufficient from
an early age. Juhi will also be visiting these young women on her trips to India. |
|
| IAC is already involved in ‘craft’ making projects – the idea is to integrate these 2 programmes –
to produce a variety of crafts that would have a national as well as international appeal and
quality. |
|
| Whilst traditional Corporate philanthropy was done by ‘ signing a check’ to a non-profit
organisation, it has been proven now that active involvement of successful professionals in
execution of a philanthropy program is far more effective i.e. the ‘time value’ of such individuals
has a multiplier effect which is far more than the direct $ value of a monetary contribution alone. |

| **The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the premier industry body of India, has set up the
Indian American Council (IAC) to connect Indians in America to India. The Council provides a formal
mechanism through which Indian Americans can identify avenues for participation in India's socioeconomic
developmental process. |
|
| The inspiration for the Indian American Council comes from the involvement of numerous Indian
Americans in social and business-related areas in India. From people running medical camps in
remote villages of India, to setting up world-class education networks or state-of-the-art health care
facilities, examples of involved Indian Americans are increasing steadily. |
